Mogu Takahashi
Meet the inimitable Mogu Takahashi, self-taught painter and bird lover!

Describe what you do: I am a self taught artist. I had solo exhibitions in Japan, Paris, Barcelona Melbourne and Stockholm.
Where do you live? Where do you work? I live and work in Tokyo.

Describe a typical day for you: I am an early bird. I wake up 4-5AM, go to studio and start working from around 7AM. My studio is next to library and park, I call them my garden and book shelfs. I love spending time there for drawing, daydreaming and reading!

Name a book that you read recently and loved: Not sure if it’s ok to say “Read” but recently I bought “PORTRETTEN” by Helena Van Der Kraan. That is portrait photo book of teddy bears. I love looking their simple but unique expressions, sometimes looks sad, worrying and cute ugly.
Favorite snack: It’s definitely salt and vinegar chips! But now I’m trying not to stock it because it’s so hard to stop. hehe.
Favorite color combination: Hmm it would be... Green and Smoky rose pink!

What is your most treasured possession? My bird Mame, if it’s ok to call him a possession. First meeting with him was very unique. A day I saw baby green bird in the dream. Then next day accidentally I passed pet shop, so there was the bird I saw in dream!! Face, wing colors, and cage, everything was same, I felt something special and I decided to welcome him to our family. It’s a story 10 years ago. Since then I often draw birds in paintings :)

What is the best piece of advice someone ever gave you? A few years ago when I was feeling like stuck, a friend of mine sent me this yoga quotes. So nice isn’t it? “Be like a tree. Stay grounded. Connect with your roots. Turn over a new leaf. Bend before you break. Enjoy your natural beauty. Keep growing.”

And finally, where can we see your work?
