How big are Biquette Blankets?
Our knit Throw Blankets are 50 by 60 inches, full size for draping over a couch, an armchair, or the end of a bed. In comparison, our Midi Blankets are 36 by 48 inches and Mini Blankets are 30 by 40 inches.
What makes wool different than cotton?
Wool is naturally insulating, making it warmer than cotton for its weight. Additionally, wool fibers better trap air, giving it a lighter, springier feel, while cotton tends to have a smoother texture and heavier drape. Both are very breathable, but wool is especially good at regulating temperature and managing moisture in relation to the weight of the knit.
We go a step further and use extra-fine Merino wool to prevent the common itch associated with wool for a more premium, soft feel while retaining the same heat and comfort qualities.
Are merino wool blankets warm without being heavy?
Yes. Merino wool naturally traps air within its fibers, providing excellent insulation without requiring a thick, bulky fabric. It's a great choice for a warm, breathable knit throw that feels soft and comfortable.
What makes extra-fine merino wool different from regular wool?
The difference is largely fiber diameter. Our extra-fine merino measures just 19.5 microns, making the fibers thinner and more flexible than coarser wool. This creates a softer feel against the skin while retaining wool's natural warmth and springiness.
We go through each of the fiber differences (cotton vs. wool vs. synthetics), how Biquette uses these premium fibers, and what that means for you in a luxurious knit blanket: https://biquette.com/blogs/journal/best-fibers-for-knit-blankets
Do extra-fine merino wool blankets itch?
No and it's usually the opposite compared to standard wool. Extra-fine merino is generally much gentler against the skin than coarse wool. Its finer, more flexible fibers are less likely to create the prickly sensation associated with traditional wool blankets, although individual sensitivities vary.
There's too many options, how do I decide between blankets and brands?
It's important to consider a blanket's fiber grade, size, design, construction, and finishing to decide whether a blanket will last with great quality and stay luxurious.
We've written a blanket buyer's guide around those 5 items (including an important distinction between knits and woven blankets) with a TLDR here: https://biquette.com/blogs/journal/how-to-choose-a-knit-throw-blanket
What are they made from?
All Throw Blankets (and every other Biquette knit) are fully made in small-batches and knitted fully in our Long Island facility with premium, luxurious natural fibers like super soft Egyptian cotton, organic cotton, and extra-fine merino wool.
These fibers are specifically chosen to be gentle and soft against skin, durable through plenty of washing, and provide a subtle luxurious quality that you can tell an immediate difference against synthetic fibers.
After knitting, everything is carefully hand steamed, packaged.
Who designs the patterns?
Our knit designs are intentionally curated and created in collaboration with independent artists, so each piece is an original work you won't find anywhere else.
